In 2012, SEDi founder Jay Baughan identified a clear need for communities to understand the broad emotional dynamics they face, for learning & development support which ultimately creates Emotional Safety. 

He forged partnerships with experts across FIVE fields of Social Emotional Development, to establish specific “go-to” learning zones which provide a unique insight, and the resources to support learning & development for teams, families and individuals within their communities.

We recognise that time is a precious commodity, and that the world is a dynamic place to live within. Learning & development needs to be nimble, to keep-up and to fit into the lives of the community members we support. We support our SEDi community of members through a seamless digital and local footprint, which provides them with access to all FIVE learning zones – when they have the time to learn.

Specific Learning Zones

We’ve created specific learning zones which span the FIVE areas which sit within Social Emotional Development. Each zone is dedicated to a specialist area, focused upon enabling a new type of community learning & development – stretching from revealing the different areas of emotional development, to the development of capability which will establish Emotional Safety & Resilience.

Emotional Intelligence

Globally, studies have shown us that people with high EQ communicate better, are able to reduce their anxiety and stress, can defuse conflicts and even improve relationships. They can emotionally connect with others, and have the ability to bounce-back from life’s challenges.

This learning zone focuses upon building Emotional Intelligence (EQ) in adults, for them to cascade this down into their young people and children. Learning & development enables adults to recognise their own emotions and those of others, to navigate between different feelings and to label them appropriately. We nurture an ability to channel thinking and behaviour, building capability to better manage or adjust responses and adapt to different environments, situations or types of personal interactions.


Autism

Autism changes the way people communicate and experience the world around them. Autism is a spectrum of developmental conditions,  including Asperger’s Syndrome, where each autistic person is different. Some are able to learn, live and work independently but many have learning differences or co-occurring health conditions that require specialist support.

This learning zone is a dedicated environment which focuses upon creating awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and supporting the creation of Emotional Safety in community environments. We provide countries across the world with access to expertise and resources which enable professionals and also families to establish a much needed Emotional Safety for everyone affected by ASD.


Trauma & Adverse Childhood Experiences

The long-term impacts from traumatic experiences during childhood have been shown to be associated with the later development of a wide range of harmful behaviours in later life, from alcohol and drug use, to risky sexual behaviour, violence and crime. Medically, these are linked to diseases such as diabetes, mental illness, cancer and cardiovascular disease, and premature mortality.

This learning zone is a dedicated environment which focuses upon raising community awareness of Trauma & the longer-term socioeconomic impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences. Across the world we provide access to both expertise and resources for professionals and families to establish and maintain Emotional Safety.


Social Emotional Learning

Over the last 20 years social and emotional learning (SEL) has evolved, now a proven process through which children and adults can acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage their emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

This learning zone is a dedicated environment which establishes a practical capability within professional teams, to build social emotional skills within children, young people and adults within communities. We are helping countries to embed a new capability within public, private and third sector teams, to help families to establish Emotional Safety & Resilience.


Mindfulness

The World Health Organisation suggests that more than 350 million people globally suffer from depression, with research identifying Mindfulness as the complementary treatment for a range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. 

This learning zone is a dedicated environment which establishes a practical capability in Mindfulness, for teams who support children, young people and adults and for individual self-development. We are helping countries to embed Mindfulness into communities, through public, private and third sector teams, and also families, to address rising levels of stress, anxiety and depression.
